It’s a new year, and a new Scribblers box for January! Quick note: I’m not sponsored by Scribblers, I just love the boxes and hope that even if you aren’t interested in subscribing, one of the items may catch your eye.
This box felt a little more lowkey than some of my favorites, but there was a lot to love in this month’s package. The theme of January’s box is descriptions, and being one of my writing weaknesses, I can not wait to dive into the book and teaching materials.
A Splendid Ruin by Megan Chance
A mesmerizing novel of dark family secrets and a young woman’s rise and revenge set against the backdrop of the devastating 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
The eve of destruction. After her mother’s death, penniless May Kimble lives a lonely life until an aunt she didn’t know existed summons her to San Francisco. There she’s welcomed into the wealthy Sullivan family and their social circle.
Initially overwhelmed by the opulence of her new life, May soon senses that dark mysteries lurk in the shadows of the Sullivan mansion. Her glamorous cousin often disappears in the night. Her aunt wanders about in a laudanum fog. And a maid keeps hinting that May is in danger. Trapped by betrayal, madness, and murder, May stands to lose everything, including her freedom, at the hands of those she trusts most.
Then, on an early April morning, San Francisco comes tumbling down. Out of the smoldering ruins, May embarks on a harrowing road to reclaim what is hers. This tragic twist of fate, along with the help of an intrepid and charismatic journalist, puts vengeance within May’s reach. But will she take it?
The gifts are where I felt the box was a little calmer than some of the previous boxes, but I still adore what I received. First off, there was a pack of three notebooks from Piccadilly. I took a gander at their website, and while they don’t appear to sell their own merchandise, there is a list of places you can find their products.
Alongside a collection of vibrant bookmarks from Public School Paper Co. and a “Writer at Work” sticker that I can’t decide where to put, I got a healthy little snack from BoBo’s. The Apple Pie Stuff’d Oat Bite was so delicious! I was a little weary of it, but I think I’m going to have to order myself a box! For those curious, the Oat Bite is gluten free, vegan, Non-GMO and only 140 calories. And again, it was delicious! There are so many yummy looking snacks on BoBo’s site, and one of the coolest features is the recipes page. From the few that I glanced at, it seems as though the recipes all incorporate one of their products. So for example, if you get a box of their peanut butter oat bars, you can make a peanut butter & banana chocolate smoothie bowl. Yum!
